지난 주일부터 대림절(Advent)이 시작되었습니다. 교회력으로 새해 첫날 원단(元旦)입니다. 새해가 오면 누구나 새로운 소망을 갖고 새롭게 새해를 시작합니다. 헨리 나우엔(1932-1996)의 ‘소망’을 읽으면서 소망(所望)은 우리의 삶에 없어서는 안되는 필수요소인 것을 묵상해 보았습니다. 사는 것이 힘들어도 소망이 있음을 발견하고 끝까지 붙들기를 바랍니다.

Hope means to keep living
amid desperation
and to keep humming
in the darkness.
Hoping is knowing that there is love,
it is trust in tomorrow
it is falling asleep
and waking again
when the sun rises.
In the midst of a gale at sea,
it is to discover land.
In the eyes of another
It is to see that he understands you.

As long as there is still hope
There will also be prayer.

And God will be holding you
in his hands.
